Colleges and Culture of Boston (Grades 10-11)
With more than 80 colleges and universities, Boston has earned the nickname “America’s College Town.” On this Winterim, you will have the chance to visit some of Beantown’s institutions of higher learning. This program is open to sophomores and juniors who are interested in learning more about college admissions in general and different types of colleges in particular. The tour will allow students to explore the Boston area and experience a variety of campus communities.
Our tentative list of schools includes Boston College, Boston University, Tufts University, Northeastern University, and Emmanuel College. We will also visit some of Boston’s historical and cultural sites and discuss how the city could enhance the college experience. Students will come away with a clear understanding of the college admissions process. They will meet with admissions officers, speak with current students (including Dawson graduates), and research specific majors, programs, and offerings at each school. Students will debrief their impressions of each school within the context of planning their own college application process.
Students should be prepared for a significant amount of walking as we navigate metropolitan areas and tour campuses throughout the week.
